- Montbell UL Spiral Down Hugger #1 Review
The UL Spiral Down Hugger #1 is the best sleeping bag I’ve tested for its weight and cost. At just under two pounds, it is amazingly warm!
The Spiral Stretch design is one of those designs that you look at and think…why didn’t someone think of that before now. It is simple, lightweight, but also provides extra stretch, therefore comfort.
The 800-fill down gives a lot of warmth, without much weight. The fabric is soft to the touch and if you look closely it has very small rip-stop squares.
The hood adjusts with a simple push button lock. The zipper is almost full length, it stops about twelve inches from the bottom of the bag. The shoulder collar and double draft tube do a great job keeping the warm air in and cold air out. A hang loop at the foot box makes drying it out easy. It comes with both a small stuff stack and a nice cotton storage bag.
In field use the sleeping bag is comfortable and warm. It packs down small. The temperature rating seems right on. Montbell did an awesome job on this sleeping bag. I agree with Backpacker magazine, I would give this bag the Editors Choice Award too.
