The Stubai Ultralight Universal Crampons are super light and work great is most conditions. I’ve used these crampons while climbing in the Olympic range in Washington, in the Wasatch range in Utah and carried them through the Southern Alps in New Zealand.
The aluminum proved to be much tougher than expected. Walking over short sections of rock didn’t affect the sharpness of my points. The polymer and webbing attachment system is fast and easy to use. It strapped on any shoe or boot I own. The bar between the front and rear portions of the crampon is flexible so that you can use it with shoes without having to worry about breaking the bar. It also allows for a more natural movement with flexible shoes or boots. The crampons adjust easily, but you do have to attach a bolt and nut once you have sized the crampons for your footwear, or the crampons could come loose during use. You really don’t want that to happen. The polymer mounting system folds down almost flat so the crampons are very compact. The full size front points allow you to climb better than some other light weight crampons such as the Kahtoola crampons (Kahtoola crampons are awesome too).
If you need a lightweight pair of crampons for glacier travel and moderate mountaineering, these are great. I would not recommend them for steep technical mountaineering or use on hard ice. My friend did use these crampons to summit Mount Rainer and he said they did just fine.
